Nakheel has awarded three contracts with a combined value of almost Dh563 million for construction projects at its Al Furjan and International City communities.
The developer further said that two contracts collectively worth nearly Dh526 million will be for the construction of 401 villas and terraced houses at Nakheel’s Al Furjan community.
A contract covering 249 homes and values at Dh 310.6 million was awarded to Ginco General Contracting, while a DH215.4 million contract was awarded to United Engineering Construction for the construction of the 152 residences.
Under both contracts, construction is due for completion in 18 months.
Nakheel also awarded a contract for Dh36.8 million to Metac General Contracting Company to build new community retail centre at International City. Construction of the 79,000sq.ft shopping and dining facility is scheduled to take 12 months.
The community centre will have 24 shops and six restaurants and coffee shops. Nakheel has also revealed that two-thirds of the available leasing space at the community centre has been booked.

Nakheel drew Dh790 million from in- vestors during the launch of its plots at Al Furjan last Thursday. Investors booked a total of 500 residential plots during the event, the developer has revealed.
“Just as we expected, this land drew a lot of attention, with 500 of the 509 available plots booked,” said a Nakheel spokesman.
“The level of interest un- derscores the fact that Al Furjan is one of the most convenient, sought after locations in Dubai.”
The plots are located between Shaikh Zayed Road and Shaikh Moham- mad Bin Zayed Road, close to Ibn Battuta Mall, and range from 4,800 to 13,000 sqft. Nakheel have launched a new phase on Oct. 6th in regards to Al Furjan. Phases 4 and 6 are to include a total of 223 Townhouses of both Types, A and B. It will also include a total of 146 (4 bedrooms villas) of both Types, A and B. Which is a good addition to the already existing properties as currently there is no 4-bedroom villa available. The community center is to be included within these new phases, with timeline for the center to be announced at a later stage. Construction is to commence shortly on the villas with the expected date for completion to be in November 2015. A relaxed payment plan is available directly with Nakheel in regards to the new properties which spans over until October 2017 for UAE nationals and October 2016 for non-UAE nationals. Only 10% value is required for booking purposes. It is also understood that a school is to be shortly built within the community.
